A Brief History of the Club

Riverland Model Aero Club was formed in 1970 by five model aero flyers. In those days mainly control line was flown on what was known as the “village green”. This is where the Loxton cross of sacrifice now stands. In 1973, Radio control arrived on the scene. 1975/76 saw us, as a club, host the Australian Nationals (still one of the most popular ever held.) We still host some events for the nationals to this day. The club has done from strength to strength over the years with our own leased flying field, clubrooms and one of the best flying areas in the state! The club is affiliated with Model Aerosport SA INC and The Model Aeronautical Association of Australia. The club, through the above affiliations, holds a 20 million dollar insurance cover.

Tuition and training are available using the club trainer using a dual radio system. Our field is situated along side the Loxton North Oval with entrance from the Northern end. We fly Sunday’s from 10AM to late in the day (weather permitting). Types of aircraft flying are Glider, Electric Glider, Sport, Scale, Small Electric and Control Line.

Model Flying can be a challenge but once mastered cannot be beaten! (then again we may be biased.) We have some members in our club with over fifty years experience, so they know a thing or two about models.

Come out for a look or a fly, and you will be made most welcome!

Note: Keep watching for more history and anecdotes, like the big cross-country glider marathon in the 70's, and the time a nice plane was launched without switching it on, and many other amusing stories that collect in all clubs.
